Roger Withers now had a lot of success with the first two Amputee Ride Days, and knew this great event had to carry on. After making contact with Specialized USA who offered their total support and wanted to see the rides days grow into a worldwide event, the concept was born, and it was now time to name the program.
We held the 3rd Amputee Ride Day back where it all started in 2018, and returned to www.greenvalleysmountainbikepark.com, Feeling at-home again in the picturesque foothills of Macquarie Pass National Park.
Sponsored by Specialized Bicycles USA & Australia providing their fleet of Specialized Turbo Levo electric assist mountain bikes. www.specialized.com, with Daniel Purkis and Davide Tartaglia.
The whole team from www.camdencycles.com.au came out to help, Adam Hall, Patrick Callaghan, Jeff Walker and Eric Phrakaysone, bike stations were set up ready to fit people to a bike and fine tune their ride.
Again we had the support of Mark George from Southern Prosthetics and Orthotics learning from the first ride day minor adjustments needed to be made to some prosthetics for riding. This time we also had Stephen Harland from www.ottobock.com.au showing what prosthetics are on offer and suggesting options for riding.
Darrel Sparks and Meredith Fisher from www.amputeesnsw.org.au helped support and promote the event and also helped on the day.
We had volunteers Adam Vickers, Emily Henderson, Leo Smith, Dennis Said and Brett Behag who made an awesome job of looking after the BBQ!
This time we had up to 20 riders attend, some new and some old, back for a second or third time. There were so many smiles and lots of laughs.
This ride day was different because "Ability To Ride Worldwide" was launched and officially announced. The service and concept was truly here to stay.
We can’t thank all our sponsors, supporters and volunteers enough for believing in Ability To Ride Worldwide.
